Kira Gordon

Doctoral Clinical Practicum Student

I am a Provisional Psychologist who completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Alberta and my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Prior to my training as a psychologist, I worked with at-risk children, youth, and families—experiences that continue to shape my trauma-informed, relational, and strengths-based approach to therapy. This work deepened my understanding of how adversity, loss, and grief can impact individuals across the lifespan, while also reinforcing my belief in each person’s capacity for resilience and growth.

I believe that while everyone experiences periods of struggle, each person also holds innate strengths and a deep capacity for resilience, healing, and growth. In my work, I aim to create a supportive and welcoming space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences while developing greater insight, self-understanding, and confidence.

I believe that while everyone experiences periods of struggle, each person also holds innate strengths and a deep capacity for healing and change. In my work, I aim to create a supportive and welcoming space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences while developing greater insight, self-understanding, and confidence.

I draw on evidence-based approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am particularly interested in working with individuals navigating grief and trauma, and I approach this work with care, respect, and attunement to each client’s unique story and pace.

In therapy, I work collaboratively with clients to build practical skills, internal resources, and resilience. I also integrate somatic approaches to support nervous system regulation and strengthen the mind–body connection, fostering a sense of safety, grounding, and empowerment. My work is informed by current research on trauma, neuroplasticity, and the role of expanded states of awareness in healing, allowing me to support clients in an integrative and thoughtful way.
