Psycholytic Therapy
A psychology-centred approach to ketamine-assisted therapy
At Reunion Psychedelic Therapy, our work is grounded first and foremost in psychology and psychotherapy.
Our Psycholytic Therapy Program reflects this philosophy. Using low-dose ketamine alongside active psychotherapy, this approach prioritizes therapeutic relationship, psychological understanding, and meaningful integration over intensity of experience.
Rather than focusing on altered states alone, psycholytic therapy supports change through guided psychological work while the medicine is active.
A Psychology-First Model
In psycholytic therapy, ketamine is used as a therapeutic facilitator, not the treatment itself.
Lower doses can create a state of increased openness, flexibility, and emotional accessibility while allowing clients to remain present, reflective, and able to engage directly with their therapist.
This allows psychotherapy to happen in real time:
patterns can be noticed as they arise
emotions can be processed safely and collaboratively
insight develops within relationship rather than in isolation
For many clients, this approach feels closer to an enhanced psychotherapy session than a traditional psychedelic experience.
Sessions are typically two hours in length, allowing time for preparation, active therapeutic work, and initial integration within the same appointment.
Who Psycholytic Therapy May Benefit
This program is often well suited for individuals who:
value a psychology-driven approach to healing
want therapy to remain central to treatment
prefer to stay conversational and grounded during sessions
are interested in gradual, insight-oriented change
feel hesitant about higher-dose psychedelic experiences
are working through trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, burnout, or complex life transitions
It can also be helpful for clients who already engage in psychotherapy and wish to deepen their work with additional psychological access and flexibility.
Why Some Clients Find This Approach Especially Helpful
Psychological change often occurs not only through powerful experiences, but through carefully supported exploration over time.
Low-dose ketamine may temporarily soften rigid cognitive and emotional patterns, making it easier to approach difficult material with curiosity and self-compassion. Because clients remain engaged with their therapist, new understandings can be explored, practiced, and integrated immediately.
Many clients describe:
greater emotional clarity
improved ability to articulate internal experiences
increased self-understanding
lasting change emerging from repeated psychological work
Within this model, the medicine opens the door — psychotherapy guides what happens next.
Assessment and Clinical Care
Access to the Psycholytic Therapy Program requires completion of the same comprehensive assessment process used for all services at Reunion Psychedelic Therapy.
This includes:
intake and medical screening
psychological assessment
review by our clinical team to ensure safety and clinical fit
Treatment recommendations are always individualized, reflecting our commitment to responsible, psychology-informed care.
Our Philosophy
Reunion Psychedelic Therapy was founded on the belief that psychedelic-assisted treatment is most effective when embedded within strong psychological practice.
Psycholytic therapy represents one expression of this philosophy — an approach where insight, relationship, and therapeutic process remain at the centre of care.
For many clients, meaningful change happens not because of the medicine alone, but because psychology provides the structure in which change can take root.
