Treatment for adolescents
At Reunion, we are dedicated to offering innovative, evidence-based treatments to support the mental health and well-being of adolescents and their families.
Psychedelic-assisted Psychotherapy
Ketamine may offer therapeutic benefits for adolescents experiencing certain mental health conditions when other treatments have not produced sufficient results. Our approach combines ketamine treatment with robust psychotherapy support, ensuring that adolescents and their families receive comprehensive care tailored to their unique needs.
What is ketamine?
Ketamine is a prescription medication with decades of clinical use as an anesthetic. At lower, sub-anesthetic doses, it is being studied for potential psychiatric applications. This treatment is not suitable for all individuals and is administered only when deemed appropriate by a qualified medical professional.
Does it work?
While some clinical studies suggest that ketamine may produce a rapid reduction in depressive symptoms for certain individuals with treatment-resistant depression, results can vary widely.
Conditions ketamine can support
Current evidence suggests ketamine may complement psychotherapy for:
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
For adolescents struggling with persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in activities, ketamine may offer a rapid reduction in depressive symptoms.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Adolescents suffering from chronic anxiety and excessive worry may experience relief through ketamine treatment, helping them regain a sense of calm and control.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Traumatic experiences during childhood or adolescence can significantly impact mental health. Ketamine has demonstrated promise in reducing the intensity of PTSD symptoms, allowing young people to process trauma more effectively.
Suicidality
Ketamine can be particularly effective in reducing suicidal thoughts and behaviours. For adolescents experiencing acute suicidal ideation, ketamine therapy may provide rapid relief, offering a crucial window of time to implement longer-term therapeutic interventions.
Our integrated approach: Ketamine as an adjunct to psychotherapy
Clinical research suggests that the therapeutic use of ketamine may be more effective when integrated with psychotherapy. While ketamine may induce altered states that support emotional processing, it is not intended to function as a standalone treatment. In our clinic, ketamine is used only as an adjunct to psychotherapy, under medical supervision and in accordance with federal regulations.
Our clinical team works collaboratively with adolescents and their families to provide structured psychological support through the course of treatment, including preparation, monitoring, and integration.
Individual Therapy
One-on-one sessions to help adolescents process their experiences, explore their emotions, and develop healthy coping strategies.
Group Therapy
Peer support groups where adolescents can share their experiences in a safe, supportive environment, reducing feelings of isolation and providing opportunity for vicarious learning.
Family Therapy
Sessions that include parents and siblings to improve family communication, understanding, and cohesion, fostering a supportive home environment.
Disclaimer
Reunion Psychedelic Therapy operates as a provincially licensed and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)–accredited medical clinic offering ketamine-assisted therapy. All ketamine treatments are prescribed and administered under the supervision of qualified medical professionals in accordance with CPSA standards, Health Canada regulations, and evidence-informed clinical protocols.
In its off-label use, ketamine is legally permitted in Canada when prescribed by a licensed physician. Its use is supported by a growing body of clinical research for select mental health conditions, including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
How it works
Referral & Intake
Clients begin the process with a referral from a regulated health professional. A comprehensive review of their medical and clinical history is then conducted to determine eligibility and safety.
Preparation Sessions
At least one preparatory psychotherapy session is held to establish treatment goals, clarify expectations, and outline safety protocols.
Dosing Sessions
Ketamine is administered in-clinic under the supervision of medical professionals. It is given in sub-anesthetic doses while heart rate and blood pressure are closely monitored.
Integration Sessions
Follow-up psychotherapy sessions help the client process their experience, reinforce therapeutic insights, and support the integration of these insights into daily life.

Ketamine can be safely administered in four ways: intramuscular (IM), intravenous (IV), intranasal, or orally.
At our clinic, we offer ketamine intramuscularly.
When appropriate, we also offer psycholytic ketamine. Psycholytic therapy involves taking ketamine at low doses orally in a lozenge form. Psycholytic doses are taken more frequently than psychedelic doses.
Ketamine dosing sessions occur at our safe, comfortable, home-like clinic and are monitored by a medical professional.
